New Alcohol Act

The government of the Balearic Islands has passed a new law on the sale of alcohol, which came into force on 01/23/2020. It aims to limit alcohol consumption in the Playa de Palma/Arenal region. All-inclusive hotels must limit servings to six alcoholic beverages per person per day (three during lunch and three during dinner).

From 01/01/2018, the following Sustainable Tourism Tax rates apply per person per day for all tourist stays in the Balearic Islands. The amount of the tax depends on the category (* = each plus 10% VAT), payable locally.

Exceptions:

• Children under the age of 16 are exempt from the tax
• From the 9th day of stay in the same accommodation, the amount is reduced by half.
• Passengers whose cruise ships have their base port in the Balearic Islands are exempt from the tax.
